L. F. Addington, Former Wise Principal, Dies

Wise, Va.—Luther F. Addington, 78, a former principal of Wise High School, died Sunday in Wise Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Virginia Education Assoc., the Appalachian Regional Library Board, and served as past president of the Southwest Virginia Historical Society and was principal of Wise High School from 1930 to 1964. Addington was the 1956 winner of the Wise County Citizen of the Year Award, and authorized "The History of Wise County". He serves as president of the Emory and Henry College Alumni Assoc. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lou Emma Addington; three brothers, Olin Addington, Kingsport, Orville Addington, Abingdon, and Omer Addington, Gate City, Va. Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, is in charge.

Funeral services for Luther F. Addington will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Jim Douthat officiating. Burial will be in the Glencoe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family suggest contributions be made to the Heart Association. Sturgill Funeral Home of Wise, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
