In Waterford, May 11, Hon. Sylvanus Hemingway, aged 70 years. Judge H. was born in Springfield, Mass. 1772, and removed to Waterford in 1795, which was soon after the organization of the town. He has represented the town in the Legislature 24 years, and been a Justice of the Peace many years. He was appointed town clerk and treasurer in 1802, and has since held the office 32 years, and been entrusted with much other town business. He was appointed one of the judges of the county Court in 1833, and served two years. He discharged all of his official duties with great fidelity, and although a man of few words and of much decision of character, was nevertheless efficient in his undertaking, manly in his decision, punctual in his engagements, and of sterling integrity. He has left an afflicted wife with whom he lived about 50 years and a large family of children and grand children and numerous other friends and connections to mourn his loss.
