Paducah Sun Obituaries Sep 18, 2009

Rev. Jeff D. Dobbins passed peacefully on September 17, 2009, at St. Anthony's Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri, after complications from a stroke. He was born on July 31, 1921, in Pemiscot, Mo., to the late Jeff and Maggie Dobbins.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; his son Thomas, in 1996; his wife, Helen, in 2003; and his son David, in 2004.

Rev. Dobbins served his country in World War II from 1944 to 1945. After the war, he moved to Michigan where he raised his family. He retired from Clark Equipment in 1983 where he worked as a machinist for 28 years, and in 1984 he and his wife moved to Kentucky.

He and his late wife were former members of First Church of the Nazarene in St. Joseph, Mich., where they were actively involved for many years. Rev. Dobbins was ordained as a minister in 1977 and served as pastor at Church of the Nazarene in Harbert, Mich., and as interim pastor for several churches in Kentucky. Rev. Dobbins was a member of Paducah First Church of the Nazarene.

In 2005, he moved into Jackson Oaks retirement center where he made many new friends. He stayed active and lived there until relocating to Missouri after his stroke.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Wanda Wagester of Pittsburgh, Pa., Linda Pyatt of Hillsboro, Mo., and Margaret Lange of Fort Myers, Fla.; and his sons, Jerry Dobbins of Galien, Mich., and Jim Dobbins of Fort Wayne, Ind. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

He will be remembered first and foremost for his faith and devotion to serving God and, secondly, for his infamous expressions and jokes to which he had an endless supply.

The Dobbins family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, 120 Memorial Drive in Paducah.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene, 2626 Adams St. in Paducah with the Rev. Russell Frazier officiating, followed by a graveside service at Mount Kenton Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 2626 Adams St., Paducah, KY 42001.
