Mrs. Halvor Johnson of Brandon passed away rather suddenly Friday morning February 23rd. She had been in poor health for many years, having been a suffrer from asthma, heart trouble and complications, and also suffered a light stroke over two years ago. she had been up and about every day this winter, but had seemed weaker this last week. She was at her usual place at the supper table and listened to the vesper services of Rev. O. G. Aasen broadcast. She became ill during the night and passed away peacefully in the early morning.

Mary Foslien was born to Knud and Anne Foslien December 12, 1855 at Jefferson Prairie near Clinton, Wisc., and had reached the age of 84 years, 2 months and 11 days. She grew to womanhood there, was confirmed by Rev. Simenson and on May 16, 1882 was united in marriage to Halvor Johnson of Brandon by Rev. G. T. Omland. They moved to his farm two miles west of Brandon where they worked faithfully and went thru the hardships which were so common to the pioneers. The country was open and sparsely settled, making it far between neighbors, roads were poor and conveniences few. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were faithful members of the St. Petri congregation since its organization and Mrs. Johnson was a charter member of the ladies aid, also a member of the St. Petri mission circle of Brandon. During the later years she has been prevented by poor health from attending services and has been a faithful listener every Sunday morning to the Lutheran services over WCAL of St. Olaf college as well as the vesper services of Rev. O. G. Aasen from Fergus Falls. She resided on their farm for 28 years. On May 18, 1918 she experienced a great sorrow in the death of her husband. About 15 years ago she moved to Brandon with her daughters and had a home built where she has since lived.

Surviving to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother are a son Clarence and two daughters Emma and Minnie all of Brandon. A grand niece, Mrs. Wm. Hanson of Garfield who had made her home at Johnson's since childhood when her own mother died. She also leaves two grandsons and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Werner, Rachael and Carrie Foslien, of Brandon. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, Feb. 26 with a short service at the home by her pastor, Rev. H. B. Raun and at the St. Petri church at 2:00 o'clock assisted by Rev. C. B. Bestul.
