Lois Webber, 58, 1208 N. 18th St., Bismarck, died peacefully at home on March 21, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Century Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willis Potratz officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Lois Newton was born on Oct. 7, 1939, in Springer, N.M., the daughter of A.L. and Nora Newton. In 1947, the family moved to Wyoming where her father was superintendent of schools in Deaver and Evanston. Lois graduated from Evanston High School in 1957.
After attending two years of college at the University of Wyoming, she married Kurt W. Webber and the two made their home at Minot, where Lois completed her education at Minot Teachers College.
Following graduation, Lois was employed by Augustana Lutheran Church as a kindergarten teacher at Minot.
In 1976, Lois and her family moved to Bismarck and between 1980 and 1989, she was employed as a teacher and director of the Bismarck Missouri Valley Montessori School. She also taught piano in her home for several years.
In 1990, Lois took a position as a secretary at Baptist Nursing Home at Bismarck, where she worked until September of 1997, when she retired because of ill health.
Lois was a member of the Kappa Gamma Teachers Society and from 1990 through 1992, she served as the society's president. Lois enjoyed various kinds of crafts and was active in Century Baptist Women's Church Fellowship.
She is survived by her husband, Kurt; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Sue and Kenneth Zamora, Las Vegas; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas and Brenda Webber, Bismarck, and Steve and Angela Webber, Rochester, Minn.; two granddaughters, Krista and KaraLee; her mother, Nora Newton, Loveland, Colo.; one brother, Bill Newton, Worland, Wyo.; and her special friend, Fern Lindteigen, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Ann; and her father, Aubie Lee Newton.
She was loved deeply by her family and friends and will be missed.
