Leo R. "Bud" Alexander, 80, of Murfreesboro, TN., formerly of Decatur, IL., passed away Thursday, May 26, 2005 with his family at his side at the V. A. Hospital in Murfreesboro after a long illness.
Burial in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
Mr. Alexander was born September 7, 1924 in LaPlace, IL. He was the son of Nelson G. and Della (Augustine) Alexander. He married Virginia Fryman on December 30, 1945 in Decatur and would have soon celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage. Mr. Alexander attended Peoples Church of God and Rock Springs Church of God. He volunteered several years at Camp Warren, helping to maintain the camp grounds. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. Alexander retired after 31 years as a locomotive engineer on the Wabash Railroad and later known as Norfolk Southern Railroad. He also worked for A. E. Staley Mfg. Co. for 8 years and Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 1 year. He was a member of Great Light Masonic Lodge 1064/Stephen Decatur Lodge 979 for fifty years.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia, daughters; Cecilia A. and her husband Dick of Murfreesboro, TN., Nancy J. and her husband Bob, Smyrna, TN., and Teri Lynn and her husband Randy of Decatur, IL., seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and sister Irene of Saybrook, IL.
Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Joseph Johnson, one brother, two sisters and one son, James.
He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
