Leonard Alden "Mickey" Andrews

Hyannis Park- Leonard Alden Andrews of Hyannis Park died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on November 3, 2013. Alden was born in Whitman, MA to the late Samuel and Virgie (Sanborn) Andrews on August 22, 1919. Alden graduated from Whitman High School in 1937.

Alden found work while in high school in the kitchen of The Toll House Restaurant, where his boss, Ruth Wakefield, invented the Toll House Cookie.

Upon graduation, Alden worked for City Service prior to beginning his 40 year career at Mobil Oil Corporation. There, he was known as "Mickey" by all those who worked with him. In August 1942, Alden joined the Coast Guard and was honorably discharged two and a half years later, resuming work at Mobil Oil upon his return to Massachusetts.

His Massachusetts territory covered the Cape & Islands. In 1975, Alden was transferred to Poughkeepsie, NY as a Senior Marketing Representative. He retired in 1982.

Alden was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Williams) Andrews who passed away in 1954. She left behind their three children; Jerry, Dean and Bette.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edie (Cash) Andrews and their children; Jared Paul Sr. from Redlands, California, the late Dean Scott, the late Bette Jean, Pamela Jean (Andrews) and her husband Steven Barnes of Harwich, MA; Jane Elizabeth (Andrews) and her husband Curt Benttinen of Centerville, MA, and Christian Alden and his wife Jennifer of Pacific Palisades, California.

Alden was the proud grandfather of Betsey Orosco of Sacramento, CA, Paul Andrews of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Rick Andrews of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeanne Andrews of Redlands, California, Jordan Barnes of Harwich, MA, Taylor Barnes of Harwich, MA, Rachel Benttinen of Centerville, MA, Will Andrews, Owen Andrews and Mae Andrews of Pacific Palisades, CA. He was also the proud great-grandfather to Aundrea Orosco, Danielle Orosco, Sara Orosco, Anthony Orosco, and Aaron Alden Andrews with another great-grandchild due in February.

Alden loved living in Hyannis Park, having returned full-time to the Cape upon his retirement. He enjoyed sitting on his porch and watching the activities on Lewis Bay, surrounded by his many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a steady succession of friends. This was his greatest pleasure and achievement.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home at 160 West Main Street Hyannis, MA on Friday November 8th from 4-7pm. A brief service will follow from 7-7:30pm at the funeral home. His burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to: VNA of Cape Cod Hospice & Palliative Care or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
