James ARTHUR Byrd, 78, of Eads, TN, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Evelyn Helm Byrd and her three children, David Humphreys (Debbie), Donna Harris (Kenny), and Carol Gardner. Mr. Byrd also leaves behind his grandchildren: Chris, Haily, Alyssa, and Christa Humphreys, Kensey Hall (Jared), Karley Harris, and Will Gardner. He is also survived by his sisters: Sarah Brush (John), and Joan Tucker (Charles); brothers: John Byrd (Wanda), Dan Byrd (Carol), Bobby Byrd (Deborah), and Harold Byrd as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louise and Arthur Byrd. He was a life-long farmer and owned Byrd Sod Farm. He will be remembered by his loyal customers for his "aim to please" attitude and his yearly holiday visits to deliver country hams with his famous smile. James was a member of the Church of Christ, having been baptized in a creek in McNairy, TN at the age of 19, and since that time lived a diligent Christian life. Most recently, he worshipped with the Great Oaks congregation. The family will receive friends Thursday November 7, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Arlington, TN. Memorial contributions may be made to Great Oaks Church of Christ Costa Rica Mission Fund, 3355 Brunswick Rd. Memphis, TN 38133 or to the Alzheimer's Association.
