Hurst - Edith Helen Mitchell, 86, of Hurst, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Barry Dean Jeralds officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Edith was born on June 15, 1927, in Hurst, to Earl R. and Helen Marie (Elliott) Jarvis. She married Kenneth Wayne Mitchell on April 16, 1948, in Morganfield, KY. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1996.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Curtis Overton of Christopher; son, Dave Mitchell of Herrin; two sisters, Vera Jeralds of Ava and Rosemary Taitt of Hurst; brother, Lonnie Jarvis of Hurst; four grandchildren, Bryan and Natasha Mitchell of Hurst, Ashley and John Duke of Crane, Mo., Josh Roth of Christopher, and Charli Moss of Herrin; and three great-grandchildren, Libby Mitchell, Olivia Hillard, and Savannah Duke. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James "Jim" Mitchell; grandson, Terry Lynn Roth; sister, Erline Tyner; three brothers, Gene Jarvis, Ralph Dale Jarvis, and an infant brother; and two daughters-in-law, Kay and Patti Mitchell.

Edith was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, fishing, and playing rummy. She belonged to the Community of Faith Church but most recently attended the First Baptist Church in Hurst.

Edith and her family wanted to send a heart filled special thanks to a special niece and her husband, Lou Ann and Jack Spani.
