Funeral services for Josephus Bowyer, 58, were conducted here last Sunday morning at eleven o'clock. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. A. Morrison, pastor of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Bowyer died at an early hour Saturday morning, after several years of illness on account of paralysis. He was a son of the late Thomas L. Bowyer, who was a native of South Carolina and had more to do with the opening up and development of this section of the state than most any other citizen. He was active prior to the cutting of many of the pine forest, and after opening up the timber and lumber business back in the ‘80's (1880's) engaged heavily in the sawmill business.
Mr. Josephus Bowyer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Charlotte Bowyer and one son and one daughter, Chester Bowyer, Helena, and Miss Gertie Lee Bowyer, Alamo. One brother, and two sisters, Grover Bowyer, and Mrs. Mary Patton, Alamo, and Mrs. Alice Trull, Manassas.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, and burial was in the Alamo Cemetery.
The pall bearers were, Eschol and Van Bowyer, Woodrow and Owen Powell, Edison Clements and Marvin Gibbs, his six nephews.
