Charlotte Leone (Mason) George, 89, of Midland, passed away at Stratford Village on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006.

Charlotte was born on Aug. 27, 1917, in Muskegon, to Marian Alberta (Waltz) and Walter Carl Mason. The oldest of three children, Charlotte was preceded in death by both her brothers, John D. Mason and Walter C. Mason Jr. Charlotte attended Muskegon Community College for one year, and then transferred to Michigan State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1939. She joined Alpha Phi sorority and worked on the yearbook staff. Her first job out of college was working for Consumers Power, traveling to homes of purchasers of new stoves and appliances to show them how to use them.

Charlotte married Clark Alden George on Aug. 3, 1940. They built a small house in Flint and later moved to Burton Township (now City of Burton). They had two sons, Stuart, born in 1944, and Barry, born in 1945. In the early 1960's Charlotte began teaching. She returned to MSU and earned a master of science degree in 1967. She taught family living classes in the Flint School system at both Central and Southwestern High Schools from 1962 to 1974. She enjoyed many wonderful friendships and experiences from her work. Education took a central place in Charlotte's life. She committed her energies and resources to supporting her sons' studies and the education of her grandchildren.

Charlotte and Clark played duplicate bridge, were members of First Presbyterian Church in Flint, the bishop class, dance classes and the Flint Golf Club. Charlotte and Clark enjoyed boating on the Great Lakes. They maintained lifelong friendships from each activity in which they participated.

In their retirement years, Clark and Charlotte wintered in Florida, enjoyed several elder hostels, a trip to Europe, and a trip to Alaska. Charlotte undertook genealogical research and combined trips to visit Stuart in Salt Lake City, Utah with research in the archives of the Latter Day Saints Church.

Throughout her life, Charlotte maintained her gentle nature and good humor and always appreciated those who helped her, cared for her, and visited her, with the repeated line, "Come anytime, you're always welcome."

Charlotte was preceded in death by Clark, her husband of 65 years. She leaves her sons, Dr. Stuart (Diana) George of Salt Lake City, Utah and Barry (Joanne) George of Midland; four grandchildren, Stephen, (Elioenai) of Sandy, Utah, Jennifer of Washington, D.C., Brian of Grand Rapids and Scott of Seattle, Wash.; and a great-grandchild, Aurelia (Stephen and Elioenai). She also leaves many friends and students who learned from her gentle ways.

A memorial service will be held at Wilson-MILLER Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. with visitation preceding the service from 10 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. J. David Pierce of Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate.
