Joe Mitchell May, age 85, was born in McEwen, Tennessee on May 25, 1928 to Clyde and LaDelle May and died November 03, 2013.
Joe attended high school in Chattanooga, Tennessee and upon graduation, he joined the Army and served in the occupation of Japan for a time. Upon returning to the United States, he attended The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he earned a degree in construction engineering and where he met and fell in love with his wife of 62 years, Mary Adele Hampton. He was then hired by DuPont and relocated to Pensacola, Florida to build the plant used by Monsanto.
Joe and Mary joined Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church and were among the first one hundred charter members. The couple loved the Pensacola area and wanted to start and raise their family here, so he accepted a position with the city of Pensacola. An employment opportunity arose from Monsanto, was accepted and thus began an adventure of transferals from Pensacola to cities across the United States and parts of Europe.
Joe and Mary then retired to their favorite part of the world, Gulf Breeze, Florida where he dabbled in construction, golf, bag piping and many other interests.
He was preceded in death by his parents, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary and his daughters LaDelle Lequerica (Frank), Dianne Kildow (Kurt), his three grandsons, Frank Lequerica Jr., Dr. Joe Lequerica (Dr. Laleh) and Kyle Kildow (Jennifer) and one great-grandson Kellen Kildow.
A time of visitation will be held at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church from 3 to 4:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 4:00 PM on Thursday, November 7, 2013.
The family would like to express our great appreciation to Covenant Hospice organization and its wonderful employees. Also to the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church for their support and care during this time.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Joe's name to Covenant Hospice or Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
