He m1. on 18 Aug 1953in Abilene, KS to Viola Mae Zurfuth. They had 3 children: Ronald E. "Ron", Benny A. & Robert E. "Bobby".

He m2. on 25 May 2013 in Casey, Clark Co, IL to Diane Hanners.

After marrying Viola, they moved 10 miles south of Casey, and started a business, Stutesman's Garage, which included used car sales, salvage yard and a wrecker service.

Bob was a very active member of Ancient Free and Accepted Masonry and its appendant bodies. He became a Master Mason in Casey Lodge 442 in January 1979. He served as Worshipful Master of Casey Lodge in 1984 and later served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 20th Eastern District of the State of IL.

He became a member of The Valley of Danville, IL Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies in 1979, and served as Sovereign Prince of the Walter A. Stevens Council Princes of Jerusalem in 1994.
He was presented the Meritorius Service Award by the Illinois Council of Deliberation in 1988.

He became a Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the Thirty-Third and Last Degree, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council in 1999.

He was a Past Worthy Patron of Areta Chapter #79, Order of Eastern Star; an Ambassador of Ainad Shrine Temple in East St Louis; a Past President of the Clark County Shrine Club, participating in the Triple "C" Hobo Clown and 10-70 Patrol Shrine Units.

He was Past Commander of the Casey VFW; an honorary Kentucky Colonel; a member of the York Rite, Gao Grotto, White Shrine, Hazel Dell American Legion, and the Casey Lions Club.

He managed and raced at the Charleston Speedway for several years, and was the 4-H leader for the Moriah area when his sons were younger.
