During the Civil War, Milo served with Company G, 3rd Regiment Vermont Volunteers. He mustered in on January 16, 1864. On May 6, 1864 he was wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness (Spotsylvania County, Virginia), but remained with his regiment. Six days later, his arm was broken by a minnie ball during the Battle of Spottsylvania Count House. From the field hospital, Milo walked to Fredericksburg, Virginia where his arm was dressed by an army surgeon. From there, he was sent home on furlough. On July 25, he was transferred to Company I, serving in the state of Vermont until being discharged for disability on December 29, 1864.
