BRISTOL, Va. Emma Joanna Cross, age 95, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Grace HealthCare in Abingdon, Virginia. She was born in Russell County, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late William Oscar Meade and Grace Chafin Meade. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mancer Cross; one son, William N. Cross; a daughter-in-law, Connie Cross; and a grandson, Frankie Bush. She was also preceded in death by three sisters; and one brother. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hansonville, Virginia, and was a lifelong resident of this area. She is survived by her three children, Jerry Cross of Bristol, Virginia, Sharon Shelton and husband Darrel, of Gate City, Virginia, and Gail Ligon and husband Jim, of Cookeville, Tennessee; special grandsons, Jason Cross and wife Rachel, of Bristol, Virginia, Josh Ligon of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Jack Ligon of Chesapeake, Virginia; two very special great- grandchildren, Cora Ann Cross and Noah Shelton Cross; brother-in-law, Ivan Godsey; and three nephews, Richard Godsey, Phillip Hagler and Jackie Meade. Funeral services for Emma Joanna Cross will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Dingus Officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, Virginia, and the family and friends are asking to go from the funeral home in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Frost Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the Frank E. Bush Memorial Scholarship Fund at Virginia Highlands Community College in memory of Emma Joanna Cross.
