Mrs. Nancy Newton, widow of Anderson K. Newton, died at 11:45 Sunday night at the home of her son, W. J. Newton at 1817 Gilmore Street. She would have been ninety-one years old in a little more than a month and was one of the pioneers of Bartholomew County.
Mrs. Newton was born near Cincinnati and came to this county when about six years old. The rest of her life was spent in Bartholomew County and for the past six years she has been a resident of this city. Her husband died nearly fifty years ago.
Mrs. Newton was the mother of ten children, eight of whom survive. They are John Newton, William J. Newton, J. A. Newton and James M. Newton of Columbus; Albert Newton of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mrs. Sarah Essex of Flatrock Township; Mrs. Zerilda Leech of Harlan, Iowa, and Mrs. E. Dronberger of Hope.
The funeral will be held from the United Brethren Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. R.W. Harlow, and burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
