Eugene M. Dement was born on Nov. 11, 1926, near Montrose to Henry and Mary Laura (Muters) Dement. He lived in the Montrose area and attended various schools through the eighth grade. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Humboldt.

Survivors include four sons, Randy of Prior Lake, Minn., Steven (Jackie) of Harrisburg, Kevin of Spencer, and Rodney (Tammy) of Humboldt; a daughter, Colleen (Don) Hughes of Sioux Falls; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn and Glenn (Barbara), both of Las Vegas, Nev.; five sisters, Jeanette Ehlers of Sioux Falls, Viola (Don) Schimmel of Salem, Pat Stewart and Lavonne (Don) Johnson, both of Rapid City, and Alice Koch of Canova; a brother-in-law, Marvin Oines of Madison; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and seven sisters.
