Joy Sperry.

Joy Sperry was born in Adair Co., O., June 18, 1896 [sic], and came to LaHarpe, Ill., with his parents when quite young. He was married to Miss Mary Campbell of La Harpe, Nov. 20, 1859. To this union ten children were born. For over 50 years he has been a citizen of La Harpe and for a number of years has been a member of Bristol Lodge, 653, I. O. O. F.

Mr. Sperry fell a victim to la grippe about five years ago from which he never recovered. The last three years of his life he was cared for by the institute for the feeble minded at Jacksonville, where he received the best medical treatment, but become [sic] and died Feb. 3, 1896.

Mr. Sperry was a good citizen, a loving husband and a kind father. He leaves a wife and eight children, three sisters, three brothers and a mother to mourn his loss.

The Lodge record shows that Bro. Joy Sperry became a member of Bristol Lodge, No. 653. I. O. O. F. by initiation on April 20, 1881. He served the lodge in various appointive offices and was an appreciative Odd Fellow, ready and willing to do any work for the order, and striving to live up to its teaching and principles to the best of his ability.

The funeral was held at the Christian church yesterday afternoon conducted by Eld. Ventress, and the remains were laid at rest in our cemetery by the I. O. O. F. lodge.
