George von Kempen was born November 17, 1926 to parents Stanley and Alice Fisher Kempen in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the younger of two sons. His brother, 1st Lieutenant of the US Army William S. Kempen preceded him in death November 28, 1950 in the Korean Conflict.

George graduated from the University of Southern California majoring in cinema. He worked as a researcher on the autobiography of Jesse Lasky titled "I Blow My Own Horn." He joined the Navy and was awarded an appointment to Annapolis Naval Academy in 1945. In 1953 he returned to Wilmington to assist his mother and championed for low income housing providing apartments in New Castle County Delaware for tenants such as Darlene Crumble for forth-five years. He established the Von Kempen Real Estate Company and served as president of the Deltoeds; an organization of independent brokers. He never married nor had children but George always referred to Lewis Chancey as his loyal son; with a chuckle. George will be forever known for his jokes, meticulous habits, political views, frugalness, affinity for cowboy movies and creating poetry.

He leaves to cherish his niece; Katherine M. Faust, Hamilton, VA, Ursula K. and nephew; Alexander M. Karber, Winifred G. Faust and nephew; Andrew G. Faust. Plus a host of family, friends such as George Bevis and Joyce Harmon, Joseph and Teresa Jackson of Wilmington, Delaware and the community.
