Rita was born August 29, 1929 at her home in Collins, OH to the late Alphonse and Victoria (Camp) Weisenberger. Early education was at St. Paul’s Catholic School and high school at St.Ursuline Academy, Toledo, OH.
She married Robert C. Missler on June 17, 1952 in Norwalk, OH. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1989. Rita is survived by her children: Michael Missler of Fremont, Monica (Stephen) Gonda of Fort Wayne, IN, and Kenneth (Marilyn) Missler of Fremont; grandchildren: Crystal Missler of Manila, Philippines, Challen (Michael) Szabo of Fremont, Mathew Missler of Alexandria, VA, and Kathryn Gonda of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren: Ella, Addie, and Ethan Szabo of Fremont; brother Fr. Leon Weisenberger, Center Valley, PA.
Her sister Viola Missler of Norwalk, OH, passed away seven hours after Rita. Sisters-in-law: Harriet Weisenberger of Artesia, CA, Marie Stieber of Monroeville, OH, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Paul Weisenberger, Raymond (Mary) Weisenberger, and Clarence (Marie) Weisenberger; sisters: Martha (Frank) Meyers, Norma (Romie) Gies, Verna (Richard) Mayle, and her brothers-in-law Harold Missler and Ronald Stieber.
Part of the Greatest Generation, Rita was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont since 1952. She enjoyed walking at Spiegel Grove where she would feed the squirrels and birds. She enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, and was known for her green thumb. Most of all, Rita loved her family. She was a loving, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Rita loved to bake her “Grandma Cookies” and cherished the time she spent with her family.
Visitation for Rita will be on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Hanneman-Chudzinski-Keller Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, Ohio 43420. Rita’s Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, Ohio 43420, with her nephew Rev. John C. Missler as celebrant.
The Mass will be livestreamed on the Hanneman-Chudzinski-Keller Funeral Home Facebook Page. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Those attending the visitation and services are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Memorial contributions may be gifted in Rita’s honor to Bishop Hoffman Catholic School, 702 Croghan St., Fremont, Ohio 43420; A Mass in her honor c/o St. Joseph Catholic Church. 709 Croghan St., Fremont, Ohio 43420; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
