Hartley – Mrs. John T. Conn, 85, born Ruby Holmes, the daughter of Andrew and Catherine Holmes was born in Rafoe, Ireland, July 11, 1876 and died Aug. 30, 1961 at Spencer.
She came to America at the age of nine and had resided in Hartley for 70 years, in Cedar Falls for five years, and in Spencer for the past year. Mrs. Conn was a member of the Methodist church at Hartley and had been active here for many years in church and community work. She had graduated from Hartley high school, and attended an institute at Spencer to further her education.
She taught Sunday School for many years and was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star. The Women's Relief Corps and the Tuesday Club of Hartley.
She was married to Charles Boyce in 1899. He died in 1931 and she later married John T. Conn, who also preceded his wife in death.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Ewoldt of Spencer, four grandchildren, Naomi, Bruce, Homer and Allan, several other relatives, and a great many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Baumgarten funeral home in Hartley with Rev. D.D. Samuelson officiating. Music was furnished by Florence Fahlenkamp, accompanied by Mrs. Harrison Pike.
Memorial services by the Eastern Star were held at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were R.N. Potter, B.B. Clayton, Bert Gable, W.H. Wagner, V.A. McCroskey and Sam Liebsohn with interment in the Pleasant View cemetery at Hartley
