Funeral services for Mae Elise Tweeten of Lake Mills were held Monday at Salem Lutheran church in Lake Mills. The Rev. Wayne Dalen officiated. Burial was in Winnebago

Mrs. Tweeten, 92, died March 16, 1989 , at the Lake Mills Care Center. Mae Elise Tweeten was born May 7, 1896. to Amund and Elsie Kittleson Dahlby in Kensett. She attended school at Joice and was confirmed at Concordia Lutheran church. When she was a sophomore at Lake Mills high school, her mother became critically ill so she left school.
When she was 16, she joined her parents, three brothers and two sisters in pioneer homesteading near Beechy, Saskatchewan, Canada. Dec. 26, 1915, she was married to a young homesteader, Oscar Julius Johnson at Beechy. They had Komer, who was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Canada. Oscar died June 27, 1918, from a farm accident.
She returned to Lake Mills with her young son and lived with her parents. During the building of the new Salem church, she prepared meals for the carpenter crew. She was later employed at the Lake Mills Telephone Co.
March 4, 1923, she was married to Gilbert B. Tweeten of rural Joice. They lived on the home farm until March, 1955, when they moved to Lake Mills. From 1930-32, they lived in Las Vegas, New Mexico, so she could recover from tuberculosis.
Mr. Tweeten died June 14, 1970. She continued to live in her home until July, 1982, when she became a resident of the Lake Mills Care Center: She was active in Winnebago Lutheran church where she was a long-time Sunday school teacher and officer of the women's organization. She continued to be active in Salem Lutheran church especially in the Lutheran World Relief sewing group. Survivors include six sons, Komer Johnson of Nevada, James Tweeten of Lake Mills, Stanley Tweeten of Kensett, Dr. Luther Tweeten of Columbus, Ohio, Maynard Tweeten of Joice and Alvin Tweeten of Forest City; two daughters, Mrs. Stanford (Ruth) Holtan and Mrs. Leonard
(Olive) Gilbertson, both of Forest City, 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grand­ children; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, five brothers, four sisters, twin granddaughters and a daughter-in-law.
