Ensign Moses Field was born in Deerfield on February 19, 1718-19, the son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Arms) Field.

When he was 2 his father received a land grant in Northfield and the family removed there. His father died September 12, 1723 leaving a wife and 5 young children. His mother soon after remarried Azariah Wright. She was the first "school dame" in Northfield.

Moses married 1st, 20 August 1740 Anne Dickinson. She died October 16, 1755 age 34, leaving him with a small brood of young children.

He married less than a year later, on August 12, 1756, to Martha Root of Sunderland. They had another 4 children together. She survived him and married 2nd Enoch Bardwell. Martha (Root) Field Bardwell died March 3, 1813 at the advanced age of 89.

Moses was famous as a trapper of wolves. He died in Northfield November 22, 1787 at the age of 68.
