Grover was the 3rd son (4th child) of Jason Green Robberson and Delilah "Dillie" Melton Robberson. His father died when he was about 12, his mother when a young man. He started street evangelism while still a boy, and traveled as an adult with evangelist ? Riddel. After his father's death, his family moved to Dallas, where he met Victoria Webster, about 2 years younger. They were good friends and eventually married. Grover was ordained in the Methodist Episcopal Church, now the United Methodist Church. He was a traveling salesman at some point, as well.
Grover and Victoria moved to Nebraska due to Victoria's allergies. After trying unsuccessfully to have children, they adopted sister and brother, Sarah Virginia Robberson (born 04/05/21) and Frank Jason Robberson (born
