Son of Noah Carleton and Elizabeth Cady
Noah served as a Private in Company E of the 8th Vermont Infantry during the Civil War. He mustered in February 15, 1865, and mustered out June 38, 1865.
On September 24, 1870 Noah married Katie Spaulding in Danville, Vermont. By 1880, the couple lived in what was then known as Fairbanks Village in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, where Noah worked in the Fairbanks Scale Company.
The death notice and obituary published in the St. Johnsbury Caledonian on June 7, 1895, spells Noah's last name "Carlton". "Mr. Carlton was a man who easily made friends and kept them and there are many who will regret his decease. The funeral was held on Monday was conducted by Rev. Frank Appleton. The Masons took charge of the funeral at the cemetery as the deceased belonged to that fraternity."
