Note: this memorial updated April 6, 2018 with DOB/DOD locations per edit request. The DOB location was given as Anderson County, Kansas. Am accepting that location in good faith, but note that the Fairfield Ledger obituary listed the location as "Coffeyville" and the 1903 marriage record in Jefferson county, Iowa listed his birthplace as "Mineral Point", both in Kansas. Neither show up in F/A/G locations, however, so they may be now-defunct towns or locations not accounted for in the F/A/G location indexes.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

FAIRFIELD MAN PASSED AWAY WHILE IN BED

Arthur Burr, 77, a resident of Fairfield and Jefferson county for over 40 years, was found dead in his bed this morning.

Coroner Jack Raymond and Sheriff Thomas Howell were called when Mr. Burr's death was discovered, but they said there will be no inquest. The coroner said he died of natural causes.

The body was found by Walter Harris, owner of the home where Mr. Burr had roomed for the past three years. The Harris home is located at 200 W. Washington street. The officers, who were called about 7:30 a.m. , said the deceased man had passed away some time in the night.

Roll Ireland, another roomer at the Harris home, said today that Mr. Burr was not feeling well yesterday, and remained in his room practically all day.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Samuel Arthur Burr was born October 24, 1871, at Coffeyville, Kansas (sic). He was united in marriage to Launa (sic. a/k/a LaUna) Moss, who preceded him in death May 20, 1936.

Mr. Burr had lived in Jefferson county and Fairfield for nearly a half century. He was connected with the C.B. & Q. railroad for 31 years and served as section foreman at Beckwith for 11 years. He had lived at the Harris home for the past three years.

He is survived by two children: Mrs. Roy Ehrhardt, Fenton, Iowa; and Carl L. Burr, Fairfield. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two sisters: Mrs. Edith Custer, Green Castle, Mo., and Mrs. Edeth (sic) Harris of Seymour, Iowa.
