COLUMBIA — Services for retired Master Sgt. Arthur Gordon Cowart, 77, will be held at 3:30 Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home Chapel, 845 Leesburg Road. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Kidney Foundation.

Mr. Cowart died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at Providence Hospital. Born in Reidsville, Ga., he was the son of the late E.C. Cowart and Lucy Boyles Cowart. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 641 where he served as House Committee Chairman until his death. He was an employee of Fred Fields for 22 years and was a member of Baptist Tabernacle Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille P. Cowart, sons, Charles Cowart, A.L. Cowart, both of Columbia, Wayne Cowart of Hopkins; stepson, Frank Aycock of Gaston; daughters, Diane Wilson, Renee Cowart, both of Columbia; stepdaughters, Louise Banks of Denver, Delores McGill of West Columbia, Tracy Bales of Athens, Ga.; brother, Carl Cowart of Reidsville; sisters, Callie Peeples of Brunswick, Ga., Mary Nell Wilson of Columbus, Ohio; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Stevens.
