John Rebstock, the son of Johann Frederick Rebstock and Anna Elizabeth Sprintchi, was born aboard ship on the trip to America and his mother died giving birth to him. The Petit family adopted him when the ship arrived in New Orleans.
In approximately 1912 a hurricane hit the coast of Louisiana. Rose made sure all her children were in one building together that was strong enough to withstand hurricane winds. All of her children were saved, but Rose got caught in a tree. When they found her she had tied herself to the tree with her hair. Almost every nerve in her body was damaged.
