Ernest Eugene was born near Bedias, Texas, to the late Ernest Eugene Adams, Sr. and Ida Mae (Day) Adams. He graduated from Iola High School in 1948 and worked with the survey crew for Texas A&M during the construction of various projects, including the original golf course and the Beef Cattle Center. Ernest entered the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea, where he proudly served his country assigned to the 440th Signal Aviation Battalion, providing communication services and support to the Fifth Air Force Headquarters in Seoul, Korea. After returning from Korea, he was stationed in El Paso, Texas, until his honorable discharge from the service. He married his first wife, Bobbie Gilpin Adams, and moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked for Continental Emsco for several years, then began his career at Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation in Houston, where he worked in various positions until retiring as Manager of Construction Contracts in 1992.
Ernest Eugene is preceded in death by his brother, Larry James Adams.
Survivors include his second wife of 24 years, Kay J. Adams; son, Barton Eugene Adams, of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Adams, of Houston, Texas; grandson, Louis Eugene Adams and wife, Lauren, of Frisco, Texas; granddaughter, Kristin Adams, of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Mary Louise Modesett, of Cody, Wyoming, and Dorothy Stone, of Bryan, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
