Rock Musician. A guitarist, he was a founding member of the British ensemble The Climax Blues Band. His interest in music could be traced back to his early childhood and by the age of nine, he was playing the harmonica. With the aid of Bert Weedon's instruction book, the guitar soon followed. At the age of twelve, he experience his first public performance playing the electric guitar which led to his initial involvement in a band called The Mason-Dixon Line. Haycock's break came when he met Colin Cooper in 1967 and they formed The Gospel Truth. They gained success locally and after some lineup changes the Climax Chicago Blues Band came to fruition. It would be under this name that they released their self-titled debut album in 1969. Haycock, at this point was already a highly-regarded electric guitar player. A final name change took place (shortened to The Climax Blues Band) and the group went onto experience their most successful commercial period during the 1970s and early 1980s. What is perhaps their most recognizable hit "Couldn't Get It Right" reached number three on the US Pop Charts in 1977. In 1981, they scored another Top-20 hit with "I Love You". Haycock went on to play in the new incarnation of the Electric Light Orchestra and remained an active performer until prior to his death from a heart attack.
