Chico Record, Sunday Morning, March 24, 1912, pg 6 col 5: Funeral of Mrs. S.J. Carpenter This Afternoon. Mrs. Sarah J. Carpenter, mother of Roy Carpenter of Chico, died Friday at her home in Redding. She was born in Illinois in 1835 and came to California in the early days. She had been in failing health since last fall. She leaves besides her son here, who is an employee of the Northern Electric Co., a husband and other relatives.

The remains were brought to Chico on the early morning train today and funeral services are to be conducted by Rev. C.E. Winning of the Fourth street Methodist Church, in the Engel undertaking parlors at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Burial will be in Chico cemetery.

77-year-old Sarah J. Carpenter was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on March 23, 1912.
