A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired laborer and farmer. He was a member of Milburn Baptist Church and Laborers' International Union of North America Local No. 1214. He was a native of Carlisle County.

Surviving are his wife, Theja Samples Pearson; three daughters, Pam Hayden and husband, Freddy, Lisa Pearson and Karen Hobbs and husband, Billy; one sister, Iva "Sis" Flood; three brothers, Aubert, Emmitt and Homer Pearson; three grandchildren, April Saylor and husband, Jeremy, Eric Hayden and wife, Jill, and Afton Hobbs; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed "Bub" Pearson and Afton Leone Brower Pearson, and one brother, Rufus Pearson.
