Harley Alfred Taber's mother died when he was seven years old. He went to live with an elderly couple, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Hasty who lived on a large farm. He was to help with the chores so began gathering the eggs as soon as he arrived. As he grew older he helped with the farming.

He was married to Cora Phillips and they had one son, James Lloyd. After her death he married Laura Mae Thomas. She was a neighbor and Jimmie's teacher. They had one daughter, Zella Marie. They were active in the Church of Christ and in the community. He was always a farmer and on the township advisory board.
