Mrs. Phyllis Ann Tew Hayes, 72, of Spivey’s Corner died Friday evening, April 7, 2017 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.


Phyllis was born January 26, 1945 in Sampson Co. daughter of the late Wallace Early “Dick” and Cleo Coggins Tew and was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, James Lloyd Hayes.


Phyllis attended Midway High School and was employed at Bonder’s Manufacturing then at Champion Manufacturing. After retiring she enjoyed taking care of her family especially her grandchildren.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Dunn Advent Christian Church and attended Shady Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.


A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Shady Grove Church. Burial will follow at Roberts Grove Church Cemetery.


She is survived by her daughter; Renita Hayes Eargle and her husband Mick, son; Jason Lloyd Hayes and wife Brandi of Spivey’s Corner, grandchildren; James Anthony “A.J.”Jackson Jr. of the home, Noah Jason Eargle, and Cassie Victoria Hayes of Spivey’s Corner, brothers; Bobby Glenn Tew and wife Carolyn of Salemburg, and Donald Ray Tew of Portsmouth, Virginia.


The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn.
