Daughter of John Herbert Wheelock and Zella Agatha Baker

In 1920 she lived in Worcester, Massachusetts with her parents and 2 siblings (the census lists them under the name "Wellock"). Her father was a store manager.

In 1930 she lived in New York City when she obtained a US passport for travel to Europe. She returned from France in Mar 1931, traveling on the SS Ausonia, from Le Havre to New York. She was 18, single, and seems to have been traveling alone.

She married 1) Lorrin Cooke Tarlton, Sr. (1911 - 1981), son of Frank Dale Tarlton and Edna Cooke, on 7 Jul 1934 in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire. Their marriage record calls him a manufacturer. They divorced before 1945. They had children:

After their marriage, she and her husband lived for a time in St. Louis, Missouri, where their first son was born. They then moved to Connecticut. In 1940 she lived in Farmington, Connecticut with her husband and son. Her husband was the sales manager at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.

She married 2) John Burnett Russell, Jr. (1898 - 1972), as his second wife, before 1945. They had children:
