Lenora Irene was born July 5, 1922 at Whiting, Iowa the daughter of Bryan "Britt" and Ethel Irene (Waterman) Hopkins. Molly graduated from Whiting High School in May of 1940. During World War II she enlisted in WAVES (United States Navy) and reported to boot camp at Hunter College in New York City on January 25, 1945. She was stationed at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where she met and married her Husband, Dewey Allen Ellis Jr. After Dewey's death during active duty, Molly moved back to Whiting with her children.
Molly taught at West Monona Schools and was also secretary at Monona Services (now Crossroads).
Molly was an active member of the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Whiting where she served on the council, Women's Fellowship, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, WAVES National, American Legion Emery Johnson Post #481 of Whiting, and the American Cancer Society. She was very involved with the Democratic Party.
She is survived by her daughter, Claudia (Gary) Swain of El Paso, Texas; a son, Dewey (Shirley) Ellis of Kidder, Missouri; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Penny.
Molly was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Irene Hopkins; her husband, Dewey Ellis Jr.; a sister, LaVonne Thompson; brothers, Wesley Hopkins, Justin Hopkins, and Russell Hopkins.
