Percy was the son of James and Lucy Mumford, Newbold Pacey, Warwickshire.

At 0535 hrs, on 22nd October 1917, the Gloucester Regiment, 14th Btn advanced from their positions at Houthulst Forest, an action shortly before the third battle of Ypres, here Percy was killed attacking the enemy.
