USN Civil Engineer Corps Lieutenant Jeffries, Officer in Charge of Detachment WALLABY (Construction Battalion 133), was one of three killed when unidentified terrorists ambushed their jeep in deep jungle about seven miles from base headquarters.

He was with Capt. Thomas J. Mitchell and Cmdr. Leland R. Dobler.

They are not included on the Vietnam Memorial because they were killed elsewhere.

Lt. Jeffries is included on the Remembrance Rug by symbol #6427.
