Penny Lee Hughes Stewart, age 92, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2013.

She was born in Ward, Ala., to Wood Hughes and Willie Mitchell Hughes. In her youth, she split time between Alabama and Florida and graduated from Ponce de Leon High School. After high school graduation, she moved to Montgomery, Ala., where she graduated from the Massey Business School. During her time in Montgomery, she met her lifelong love, Jim, and they were soon thereafter married. During their 66 years together they traveled throughout the United States and Europe. Upon Jim's retirement from the United States Air Force, the two ultimately chose to make their home in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

She was a Girl Scout leader during her daughter's youth, an active volunteer for many years in her daughter's and grandson's schools, a supporter of numerous charitable causes, a mother to many loved and spoiled animals, and a lifelong lover of all plants and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her doting husband, Jim; and her brother, Wood Hughes Jr. Celebrating her life are her daughter, Penny and son-in-love, Paul Eubanks; grandson, Jamie Eubanks and his fiancée, Holly Owen; long-time friend and neighbor, Bonnie Fleskes; and her beloved Doberman Pinscher, Ivan.

Penny was a wonderful wife, terrific mother, loving grandmother, and a special person to all whose lives she graciously touched.

A graveside service celebrating Penny's life will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, 11 a.m., at Beal Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Steve Marko, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the directions of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home. To share memories, express condolences and sign the guestbook, please visit www.daviswatkins.com.
