A teacher, she was a member of the Los Angeles High School faculty and an influence in the establishment of the modern Parents and Teachers Association. She raised awareness in the fields of education, social welfare and music. Helped found the Mutual Benefit Reading Circle in 1914 and Glendale Beautiful civic improvement organization. Mr and Mrs Toll were instrumental in the early arrangement of the Glendale Symphony Orchestra. Due to her public service activities, some had suggested that she run as a candidate for the US Congress. The Eleanor J Toll Middle School is named for her, as is the Eleanor Joy Toll Residence Hall at Scripps College in Pomona, the first woman trustee named to the institution's founding board.
