A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, in Ross Hollywood Chapel for Elaine Haslop Spencer, who died Nov. 14 of pancreatic cancer at age 78.

Mrs. Spencer was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Portland. Her maiden name was Haslop.

She received a bachelor's degree from Linfield College, a master's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a doctorate from Oregon Health Sciences University. She taught math, chemistry and pre-medical advising at Portland State University until she retired in 1983. She was a member of Grant Park Baptist Church. She was a past officer of the Portland chapter, American Chemical Society.

Survivors include her husband, Carl E.; sons, Sylvester G. of Arlington, Wash., and Loren G. of Milwaukie; daughters, Crystal J. Clark of Portland, Cheryl L. Robinson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Wendy J. Johnson of Klamath Falls; sisters, Marjorie Emmons of Grafton, Ohio, and Lee Williams of Eugene; brother, Otis Haslop of Forest Hills, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Her body was donated to Oregon Health Sciences University. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society.
