Sarah Jane was the daughter of Mary Ann and William Wallace. She was christened on February 14th 1864 in Crosthwaite, Cumberland, England. According to the census of 1881 she worked as a servant at age 17 for the family of Mary and Joseph Younghusband (Memorial ID# 212172660?) in Keswick.

In 1891 Sarah Jane, aged 26, was at Seymour Road, West Derby, working as a cook for the family of Florence Emily (Alker) and Charles Henry Macotta, grandson of Julia (de Leon) and Elias Macotta. Julia and Elias had eight of their children baptised on January 12th 1843 in the Christ Church, Hunter Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

One of the children for whom Sarah Jane cooked was Charles Douglas, who became a Second Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion of the Royal Warkshire Regiment on October 12th 1914 and was later named Colonel. Charles Douglas was born June 10th 1887 at which time the abode of the family was Broad Green.

Paternal Grandparents
There are birth records for several Joseph Lunts in Lancashire at the time. According to a nephew of William, Joseph was born on April 7th, 1870, in Broadgreen and died in the mid-1920s. His parents, Margaret (Green) and John Lunt, were recorded on Joseph's birth certificate.

In Volume 8B, page 521, line 360, the birth of Joseph was recorded as having took place from between Apr. and Jun. 1870 in West Derby, Lancashire.

Joseph of West Derby appears in an 1891 census at Broad Green Road with his widowed mother, Margaret, aged 59, and siblings: James, Henry, George, Thomas, Peter and John. Joseph worked as a yardman (coal). Margaret died in 1932 according to her grandson.

William's brother, Joseph Albert, married Florence Morcom (b. December 6th 1910 to Ada (Jones, b. 1881 in Ulverston) and John (?) Morcom) between July and September of 1935.
