Sharon Lee Christensen, age 74, of Pompano Beach, Florida and formerly of Yankton, South Dakota, has gone to eternal life in our Lord on October 26, 2013 after struggling with Alzheimer's at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Florida.
Sharon was born November 20, 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa to Gene and Irene LaVelle Sr. She moved to different cities with her family and settled in Yankton in 1951. She graduated from Mount Marty High School in 1956 and married Darrell Christensen on November 22, 1956. Sharon and Darrell owned and operated several skating rinks and trampoline centers in Yankton and the surrounding cities for several years. Sharon worked at the Yankton Medical Clinic as office manager until they moved to Florida in 1982. There she was office manager at CAN insurance for 16 years and then head of Human Resources at Henderson Mental Health until her retirement.
Over the years, Sharon has belonged to the Fort Lauderdale Boat Club, the Broward Boat Club and most recently the Good Sam RV Club. She held offices in all three organizations.
Sharon loved traveling, cooking, entertaining, boating and dancing. She cared deeply about every person she met and became the best of friends to so many people that loved her. She was the most loving wife and the most perfect mother.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Darrell Christensen of Pompano Beach, FL; daughter, Tammy (Scott) Drumtra of Citra, FL; and older brother, Gene (Bonnie) LaVelle of Zephryhills, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sharyl.
Pallbearers will be Tom, Steve, Bob, Greg, Tim and Patrick Slowey.
