Ernest attended Highland Park High School in Topeka. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1939. Ernest married Alma Buchanan on July 23, 1941 in Wakarusa, she survives. He taught school in Vineland, KS south of Lawrence. He served in the US Army in Africa and Europe during WWII. He worked as a Soil Conservationist for the Department of Agriculture in Great Bend, Lyons, Minneapolis and Lincoln, retiring in 1977. Ernest then worked part time for the ASCS office for 14 years. Ernest and Alma moved to Clay Center in 1993. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.

Daughter: Marsha and husband Gail Habluetzel, Clay Center, KS
Son: Gary and wife Elizabeth Decker, Tulsa, OK
Grandchildren: 6 Grand and 9 Great-grand
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Grant Clay.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on 3-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the family greeting friends from 3-5
Memorials can be made to Evangelical Covenant Church or Presbyterian Manor c/o the funeral home.
