Initially thought to have died from an accidental fall, investigation later determined Bernice was the victim of a murder-for-hire arranged by her daughter-in-law Narcisa "Narcy" Novack. Bernice's son Ben Novack, Jr., suffered the same fate. Narcy and her brother Cristobal Veliz were sentenced to life in Federal prison for the slayings. Narcy's motive was the multi-million-dollar Novack family estate.
