Joanna Stewart Jenkins, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away October 22, 2013.

Miss Jenkins was born October 10, 1921 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Joseph Evans Jenkins and Joanna Gadsden Jenkins.

She was a graduate of Ashley Hall School and the College of Charleston. Miss Jenkins studied social work at Columbia University in New York and obtained her Master's Degree in Social Work from Tulane University and was retired from the Social Services Department of the State of South Carolina.

Miss Jenkins was a lifetime member of St. Michael's Church and served on the board of The Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries and the League of Women Voters.

She is survived by two nephews: Charles P. Gilchrist, III (Linda) of Tappahannock, VA and Joseph J. Gilchrist (Marion) of Hanahan, SC; three great-nieces: Stewart Gilchrist Jones (Crawford), Cowles Gilchrist Whitley (Josh) and Ellen M. Gilchrist; four great-nephews: Charles P. Gilchrist, IV (Blair), C. Harrison Gadsden Gilchrist, John T. Gilchrist, J. Reid Gilchrist and three great-great-nieces.

A graveside service will be held in Magnolia Cemetery, November 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
