LORAIN - Mary Pearl "Bear" Chaney, 56, born September 19, 1957, in Choctaw County, Ala., to Evin and Maggie Chaney, passed away October 21, 2013, following a brief illness.

Miss Chaney moved to Ohio in 1972. She attended Elyria High School, and she also was a homemaker. She enjoyed watching TV, cooking and being around family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories daughters, Shona and Patience Chaney of Lorain; son, Keonn Chaney of Grafton; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; mother, Maggie Lee Chaney of York, Ala.; sisters, Delma C. Merriweather of Emelle, Ala., Bessie Chaney of Waynesboro, Ga., and Jettie (Tummer) Alston of Lorain; brother, Evin Chaney Jr. of York, Ala.; a host of nieces, nephews, 5 special great-nieces, a very special and devoted great-nephew, John Alston; and many other family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Evin Chaney Sr.; brothers, Robert, Walter, Sanders, Willie Mack, Richard and Scott; sisters, Mattie, Jesse and Ada; and a very special niece, Annie.

Friends may call Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Peter Tower will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Carter Funeral Homes, Inc., 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain (440-244-5200).
