Bonita Bonnie Bennett, 79, of Taylorville, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was born September 26, 1937 in Portageville, MO, daughter of the late R.J. & Martha Camille (Turner) Porter.

Bonnie was a graduate of Taylorville High School, Class of 1955 and lived most of her life in Pana & Taylorville. She was a member of the United in Faith Church, Pana; Pana Elks; Taylorville Moose; & United in Faith Quilting Group. Bonnie retired from the State of Illinois in the Department of Human Services. She loved traveling, quilting, being outside with her flowers, and being with her kids & grandkids.

Bonita Porter and Bruce W. Bennett were married on February 21, 1958 in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1987.

She is survived by her daughters: Susan Berner & husband Don, Pana IL and Valerie Childress, Pana, IL; grandchildren: Sam Berner Calhoun, Georgia; Amanda Alsbury & husband Charlie, Taylorville, IL; Brad Bennett & fiance Ashton, Pana, IL; Bruce Bennett & fiance Lora, Pana, IL; Jarrad Bennett & wife Nikki, Pana, IL; Whitney Bennett & fianc Dalton, Pana, IL; Don Berner & wife Heather, Wichita, KS; Francine Berner & Mike, Weatherford, TX; 23 great grandchildren; brothers: Bob Porter & wife Leslie, Taylorville, IL & Dick Porter & wife Ruth, Taylorville, IL; and sister: Barbara Buckley & husband Larry, Taylorville, IL. She was also preceded by her son, Eric W. Bennett on April 8, 2001.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the United in Faith Church, Pana with Rev. Robert A. Miner officiating. Inurnment will be held in Mound Cemetery, Pana at a later date. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the church.
