Henry Morgan Evans was the first son of Henry James and Ada
Morgan Evans. He was born in North Ogden, Weber Co., Utah Territory. His father was killed about 1859, supposedly in an Indian battle. His mother remarried to David R Jones, whose wife, Elizabeth Evans, Henry James' sister, had also passed away. Henry and his brother, John Morgan Evans, were given to their grandfather, John Morgan, to raise. John Morgan and his wife, Hannah, moved to the Malad area of Oneida Co., ID, and again the boys were farmed out, to a family named Ireland, where they grew to manhood. In 1875, Henry met and married Sarah Ann Baker, daughter of Frederick and Diana Baker. They lived in the area of Marsh Valley, North of Malad a few miles. There, three children were born: John, Lewis Henry, and Ada. John (Johnny)was killed there about 1880. Henry then moved his family north, going through the Lost River Valley, and on to the Clayton area. They did not like it there, and came back to Lost River. Henry homesteaded on land near what was to become Darlington, and built a log cabino on the banks of Pass Creek, where five more children were born, Urban, Leona, Sarah, Olive, and Diana.
Henry and others of the area, freighted from Blackfoot,to the mines at Custer, until the railroad came to Mackay. About 1920, Henry sold his land to his sons, and he and Sarah moved to Mackay, where they purchased a small home, and there lived out their years. The house is still standing in Mackay. (2006)
