He mustered out July 14, 1863. After re-enlisting, he mustered in again on August 8, 1864 with the 2nd Vermont Light Artillery Battery. Benjamin transferred to the 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery Company on March 1, 1865, and continued to serve until July 28, 1865.
On April 28, 1868, Benjamin married Eunice A Scribner in Williamstown, Vermont. (Benjamin's obituary states they were married in South Washington, Vermont, and that they lived there until 1887.
